Roger Federer beats Chardy to reach Indian Wells quarter-finals

Roger Federer picked up the first Grand Slam title of 2018 when he swept aside Marin Cilic in the Australian Open final back in January.

Halep moves on to the semi-finals where she will face Japan's Naomi Osaka who beat fifth-seeded Karolina Pliskova 6-2, 6-3.

Baghdatis said in a statement to the tournament that he woke up on Wednesday feeling sick and had some stomach issues.

"I returned the ball well", said Osaka.

"I didn't feel well to go out there". "I've had five great matches here, passing through the qualifying and getting to the fourth round. I'm a bit disappointed myself". Federer can match his best start to a season if he overcomes Chung in the quarter-finals - he is now 15-0 in 2018, and can equal his 16-0 from 2006 when he was 24-years-old.

It will be a repeat of the Australian Open semi-final in Melbourne previous year, won by Federer after Chung was forced to retire in the second set with blisters.

Roger Federer faces a re-match of his Australian Open semi-final in the last eight at the BNP Paribas Open - going head-to-head with South Korea's Hyeon Chung.

Since his Grand Slam breakthrough Down Under, Chung has been on a roll.

Chung survived a late rally from Uruguay's Cuevas, who fended off a total of nine match points before eventually losing in the first-ever meeting between the pair. "I have a lot of respect for him".

Federer is chasing a record sixth title in the desert.

Laura Dern continues age old Star Wars tradition
The documentary will be included on Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Blu-ray, which comes out March 27th. "So, I feel like maybe it's time to stop explaining things and let the movie live".

"For so many years I have felt good actually in Australia already".

Against Federer, Chardy played a tough first set in windy conditions that persisted throughout the day.

In the second set he broke Chardy in the ninth game to lead 5-4. His forehand pulled Chardy completely off the court and Federer hit a crosscourt backhand victor off Chardy's return. The South Korean wouldn't be denied, however, breaking Cuevas to close out the win in 78 minutes.

Federer says he sees great things from Chung, who excels in the areas of consistency and quickness.

The Swiss superstar improves to 4-1 in the pair's career head-to-head.

Winds gusting to 15 miles per hour made shots tricky.

While a tight second set went to a tiebreak, it looked for all the world as though it would be another victory in two for Coric when he went 4-0 ahead. The Romanian tied it 5-all before Martic won the final two points to force a third set. "It is a totally different year, and so many years after that". "I think I was very smart during the tiebreak".

Halep next plays the victor of a quarter-final between No. 5 seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic and Naomi Osaka of Japan.

Meanwhile, No. 31 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber downed Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 7-6 (1) in their fourth-round match. Chung has dropped just 12 games in his last four sets and continues what has been a really strong start to the 2018 season.

The first men's quarter will feature Borna Coric and Kevin Anderson.
