Israeli PM warns of nuclear arms race in Mideast

The political woes come as Netanyahu is battling corruption allegations. The final word on whether to indict him rests with the attorney-general, a decision that could be months away.

"Over the past week we've baked a good solution for the draft crisis".

The widening rift could potentially hurl Israel to the snap ballots more than a year before its scheduled date, as the spiritual leaders of the major ultra-Orthodox political factions have already threatened to vote down the 2019 budget unless the legislation, which is bitterly opposed by Minister of Military Affairs Avigdor Lieberman, is approved. "I don't understand why a Haredi or an Arab can't contribute [by being drafted into the IDF]".

"If the prime minister will decide to take the whole country to personal elections that will cost billions, that will paralyse the market, then that's really serious and the public will settle accounts with him", coalition partner and education minister Naftali Bennett told Israeli Army Radio.

The bill in question is meant to grant a military exemption to Haredi (literally means "in awe of God", often called "ultra-Orthodox" in English but not without controversy) students attending a yeshiva (a traditional Jewish school for the study of the Torah and Talmud).

Israeli police have recommended indicting Mr Netanyahu for bribery, fraud and breach of trust in two separate cases and his close associates have been implicated in another case.

Trump's tariffs show you get what you voted for
The bill slashed taxes for 90 percent of working Americans and reduced the tax burden for businesses across the board. An economics professor interviewed by ABC News provided a picture of what might be expected from the tariffs.

"It is a fake crisis that can be resolved".

As MKs and citizens wondered if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech in the Knesset on Monday afternoon was going to signal an end to his coalition, Jerusalem Post photographer Marc Israel Sellem provided everyone with the answer.

Lieberman has said that he would only support legislation that is drafted by a committee of military officials.

Should Liberman pull his Yisrael Beytenu party out of the coalition over the bill, leaving it with 61 seats out of 120, that would likely spell early elections, as Netanyahu has said repeatedly that he will not lead a government with such a razor-thin margin.

The country's attorney general is now examining whether to indict Netanyahu in two separate cases.

During remarks at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said his discussions with United States President Donald Trump and other officials in Washington last week focused mainly on Iran.
