How the box office made history this weekend

Now playing in every worldwide market, its foreign box office climbed to $516.6 million, making it the fifth title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to pass the $1 billion milestone. As a writer and director, she's known for powerhouse, emotional films like Selma - the biopic of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama - as well as 13th, a Netflix documentary that goes into America's prison system to show how racial inequality affects inmates.

The movie, which took $8.5 million in its second week, co-stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Jeremy Irons and Charlotte Rampling.

'Black Panther' led the pack for the fourth week.

Ryan Coogler's Black Panther is one of the highest grossing movies of all time, a feat that it accomplished in nearly exactly one month. "She makes the most distant dreams and ideas a reality", Coogler wrote.

Some of those reflective efforts included the star-studded cast of Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon and newcomer Storm Reid, who served as the film's "warriors of light".

Kevin Harvick wins third straight NASCAR race
And you know, when he was pointing to that back window and that roof, that was not anything toward NASCAR. - Absolutely. Let's be clear that at any given race, there's plenty of pushing the envelope and coloring outside the lines.

It's the first time films by black directors with $100 million plus budgets have ever placed in the first two box office spots.

The micro-budgeted sequel to "The Strangers" opened to solid success.

Next was Fox espionage thriller "Red Sparrow", with Jennifer Lawrence as a Russian ballerina-turned-elite spy.

Warner Bros.' third weekend of R-rated comedy "Game Night" finished fifth with $7.9 million at 3,061 locations, declining only 24 per cent to lift its 17-day total to $45 million. The family-friendly Peter Rabbit finished in the sixth spot with $6.8 million to bring its five-week total to $93.5 million. Shockingly, the action movie had the second-best CinemaScore this weekend with a pretty bad "B-". This isn't a good start for Amazon Studios' first attempt at self-distribution, and the film's "C+" CinemaScore shows that audiences just didn't get it. The wide release of "Hidden Figures", starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae, opened at no. 1 in January of the same year with $22.8 million.

The other half of the weekend's new releases didn't fare so well.
