Free Agent Defensive Lineman Muhammad Wilkerson Picks Packers

The Green Bay Packers landed Wilkerson on Tuesday night.

Wilkerson, who was released by the New York Jets earlier this month, will be reunited with new Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Wilkerson will join the defensive line with Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry and Montravius Adams.

Wilkerson is clearly betting on himself to rehab his value around the league by playing for a year under Packers defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, his coach in NY for the first two seasons of his NFL career.

Now Wilkerson will come back home to face the Jets when the Packers come to MetLife Stadium this season.

Video released of deadly courtroom shooting
An FBI investigation also found the shooting justified and the Marshal was cleared of any wrongdoing shortly after the shooting. The family had argued that Angilau was armed only with a pen, and the four shots fired constituted an excessive use of force.

In good news for Wilkerson, he can be reinvigorated by playing for a victor, something CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported was important to him when discussing Wilkerson on our Pick Six Podcast Free Agency Preview (listen and subscribe to all episodes here). He took a one-year deal and will have a chance to prove he's the player he was. The two worked together for two years with the New York Jets. The Jets released him after his last two seasons. The bigger positions of need are at cornerback and outside linebacker.

Head coach Todd Bowles made Wilkerson a healthy scratch in each of the final three games of the 2017 campaign.

That seemed to change, however, when he was signed to a five-year, $86 million contract extension before the 2016 campaign, according to Spotrac.

Wilkerson peaked in 2015, when he recorded a career-high 12 sacks and was named to his first Pro Bowl. In the last two years combined he's accounted for just eight sacks in 25 games.
