All the candidates are nearly certain to win due to party's strength in respective state assemblies.

The SP, which has 47 MLAs, would be left with 10 surplus first preference votes after backing its candidate Jaya Bachhan and together with seven Congress and one of the RLD, the BSP would be able to get its candidate elected.

Independent candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar filed nomination for Rajya Sabha as Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) candidate on Monday.

The third candidate of the Congress, which has 123 members, is expected to emerge victorious with possible support from seven JD (S) rebels and a few independent Legislators.

The two ministers also exchanged views on important developments on regional and worldwide peace and security. The Iranian foreign minister appreciated the increasing high-level interaction between the two Countries.

It was BJP national president Amit Shah who informed Muraleedharan, who is now in Shimoga in connection with the Karnataka Assembly elections, about the party's decision on Sunday. The SP has 47 and the BJP along with its allies has 324 seats. BJP today released the list of 18 candidates for the Rajya Sabha Elections 2018. One of its leaders P K Valera has filed his nomination as an independent candidate with the support of some Congress MLAs.

The Congress has fielded L Hanumanthaiah, Syed Naseer Hussain and GC Chandrasekhar from Karnataka. "Hence, we fielded Kirtisinh Rana as the third candidate with party's mandate", Patel added.

The 10 Congress candidates include senior journalist Kumar Ketkar from Maharashtra, and former Union minister Naranbhai Ratwa and the party's familiar television face Amee Yajnik from Gujarat.

The BJP has fielded Kirodi Lal Meena in Rajasthan, where the party suffered humiliating by-election defeats ahead of Assembly elections later this year. "This might split the votes of Congress MLAs". If the senior party leaders are to be believed this development became the most significant reason for rejection of his candidature despite the fact the Kaushik represents the biggest vote bank in the state, i.e., OBC.
