Bangladesh elect to bowl first against Sri Lanka

The host nation Sri Lanka team will aim to continue their recent domination against Bangladesh when the two teams will meet in the Nidahas Twenty20 Trophy.

Gunathilaka and Mendis's onslaught lasted for 27 balls but it fetched Sri Lanka a whopping 56-runs before Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman sneaked through to end Gunathilaka's threatening stand. Coming to the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Sri Lanka had a great chance of securing their second consecutive win thanks to aggressive fifties from Kusal Perera (74) and Kusal Mendis (57).

Skipper Mahmudullah got Mendis out with his off-spin as he struck twice in his very first over to try and check Sri Lanka's surge.

After win over team India, captain Dinesh Chandimal said the the players are feeling good about their game and also gave credit to coach Chandika Hathurusingha, who was earlier with Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka employed seven bowlers, just as their opposing camp, but nothing prevented the tigers from snatching a well-deserved victory.

Continuing his stellar run at the top, Mendis meanwhile welcomed Mustafizur with a six and brought up his fifty in just 26 balls, his third half-century in four innings.

Pressure mounted on the Tigers when they lost the other opener Tamim Iqbal (47 off 30) halfway through the huge chase.

Upul Tharanga provided the late assault, smashing 32 not out in 15 balls to help the hosts post the highest score in a Twenty20 worldwide at the venue before Bangladesh bettered that mark.

Mustafiz bagged two more wickets late in the game to take his tally to three on the day. Captain Mahmudullah scored 20 runs so far.
