Apple to host surprise education-focused media event on March 27

The event invite asks members of the press to "Join us to hear creative new ideas for teachers and students" at a venue in Chicago. The hardware maker also sometimes introduces new iPads, which it positions toward education, in March. It's highly likely that whatever Apple announces will be focused on education. In 2012, Apple held an event in New York City to talk about education, where it unveiled its iBooks 2 platform, its tool for making and publishing books online, but even that event was all about the iPad. Apple generally is pretty reserved when it comes to releasing information regarding upcoming products or events outside of the official announcements and conferences. But while the event would be a departure from past March confabs, it would fall in line with recent initiatives at Apple.

However, Apple also has an interest in promoting the education of women - in some cases, specifically in programming.
