Snow and freezing rain on the way for southern Ontario

Environment Canada says that periods of ice pellets or freezing rain are expected to reach the Golden Horseshoe area by late morning.

A significant snow event is in effect for the City of Cambridge beginning at 6 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11 until 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12.

"A brief period of snow may precede the freezing rain, but any snowfall accumulations are expected to be minimal", the weather agency says.

All signs point to a return of winter, and some slippery conditions for the weekend, on the heels of a series of special weather statements issued for Southern Ontario from Environment Canada today. Between two and five millimetres of freezing rain are expected. Those surfaces will extremely slippery under these conditions and in terms of snow, it could be between 2 and 4 centimetres by the end of the afternoon.
