Kremlin 'very glad' at lifting of ban on 28 Russian athletes

While Norway will be second in the unofficial medal count (11-5-10, with 26 medals).

"I wish you not to think about anything which has recently accompanied your preparation for these Olympics", Putin told a gathering of athletes at his presidential residence outside Moscow yesterday.

The agency will continue to work with Berlinger, the Swiss manufacturer of the bottles, to gather information and explore solutions.

The IOC had imposed lifetime bans on 43 Russians in all for doping.

The International Olympic Committee banned Russian Federation from the 2018 Olympics after a report on a vast, Moscow-backed doping scheme in previous Games.

"Unfortunately, those completely justified athletes, who in the right shape to perform in Korea have very little chance of this".

The original bans were imposed by the International Olympic Committee following an investigation into alleged systematic doping at the Sochi Games which Russian Federation hosted four years ago.

The last time Liverpool lost both league games to Spurs with the same manager was in 1986-87 (Kenny Dalglish). Spurs go into the match on the back of a dominant victory against Manchester United on Wednesday.

Australia has backed the International Olympic Committee's decision not to allow 28 Russian Federation athletes who've had doping life bans nullified to compete at the PyeongChang Winter Games.

Lawyers of 11 Russian athletes whose appeals over charges of anti-doping rules' violations in Sochi were partially upheld by the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Thursday will insist that their clients should be fully exonerated.

The IOC warned that CAS's verdict on the 28 "may have a serious impact on the future fight against doping".

CAS said it found "insufficient" evidence that 28 of the athletes had broken anti-doping rules at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

In a meeting with the Russian delegation formed by 169 athletes and 183 officials to take part in the competitions in PyongChang, South Korea, President Putin stated that everyone expected Russia could participate in the competition, fighting many psychological adverse factors. "It makes it clear that, since the Russian Olympic Committee is suspended, Russian athletes can participate in Pyeongchang only on invitation by the IOC".

Sochi gold medallists Alexander Legkov (cross-country skiing), Aleksei Negodailo (bobsleigh), Aleksandr Tretiakov (skeleton), Dmitry Trunenkov (bobsleigh) and Aleksandr Zubkov (bobsleigh) are among the 42 athletes to have appealed against their bans.

Earlier 39 athletes - who were part of the 2014 Winter games in Sochi - had approached the CAS to appeal against the suspension.
