Google Pixel Owners Sue Google Over Allegedly Faulty Microphones

But Google says only 1 percent of all Pixel phones exhibit the defect. Google has been hit with a class action complaint alleging that it didn't honor warranties for the original Pixel and Pixel XL when it became clear that the phones suffered from microphone defects. Worse, Google continued selling the phones despite growing evidence of the issues. Google had claimed that this is due to a "a hairline crack in the solder connection on the audio codec", in which an under-warranty fix was the best way to go about it. According to Dr. Weeks, she found out defective microphone after a month of phone usage and she informed tech giant Google's customer service within warranty time but the company did not respond properly.

According to the complaint (PDF) Google knew when it began shipping the devices back in 2016 that its microphone and speaker were prone to failing and when they did, essential features like Google Assistant and voice calling were useless. The complaint was filed by Girard Gibbs LLP in San Jose, the same law firm that recently handled the class action lawsuit surrounding the bootloop issue some LG phones experienced.

Past year saw Google introduce updated versions of the phones - the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL - which were a critical success.

"It promoted the Pixel phones as premium products and priced them from $649 to $869". However, the lawsuit further states that even the replaced units were defected and the microphone issue persisted on the Pixel smartphones. Some users have said the organic LED displays have burn-in and black image smudging, in addition to some microphone issues.

Wireless "Pixel Buds": The headset received savage reviews for a cheap look and feel, mediocre sound quality, and being hard to set up and confusing to use. The sale covers its Home range, and includes an offer on cases for its Pixel 2 devices, though the handsets themselves haven't been discounted. Are you an original Pixel or Pixel XL owner?
