Google Chrome will now block annoying ads

As Google is a member of the Coalition for Better Ads, content that doesn't meet the guidelines laid out by the organisation will be blocked by the new Chrome ad-blocker. However, it won't block all ads; just those that are deemed intrusive.

Ads that violate the Better Ads Standards from the Coalition for Better Ads and that receive a high number of complaints from site users have the greatest potential to be blocked, ZD Net reported. Only sufficiently annoying ads will get the boot.

If advertisers decide that the results they get from cooperating with Google are good enough, then we can expect to see a web experience that's more pleasant and more productive. They are reportedly anxious that the responses gathered and other research conducted will apply neither to typical Google ads, nor to specific ones that run on its popular subsidiary YouTube. Margrethe Vestager, the European Union's competition chief, tweeted past year that she would be "closely" following the firm's ad-filtering efforts.

"I think everyone realizes there needs to be these standards in place", Simpson said.

Google's goal is to improve the user experience by stripping away ads that "do not follow the Better Ads Standards". Ophir Tanz is CEO of GumGum, a company that uses artificial intelligence to create display ads within images.

In its description of how this will work, Google says this will all happen on the network level.

Windows 10 Pro for Workstations to Get 'Ultimate Performance' Boost
Microsoft developed this new power scheme to provide the "absolute maximum performance" to Windows 10 users. This will be apparent in the selection of default applications that appear in the Start menu.

The move comes more than eight months after the company announced plans to automatically block ads that don't ascribe to the Better Ads Standards, a collection of best practices to make ads less annoying. It was unclear that users of such services lost out much.

Google has fired a potentially serious salvo at online publishers after its Chrome web browser began its crackdown on intrusive adverts.

While the internet is no longer quite the pop-up-adopolis it once was, there are still plenty of websites that interrupt our experiences with abrupt ads and other clutter we'd rather not be a part of our experience. Going forward, it will restrict full-page and auto-playing video ads, and many others. About a quarter of Americans already have some sort of ad blocker on their web browsers.

For desktop PCs, that means pop-up adverts, sizable sticky adverts, video ads which autoplay with sound, and "prestitial" ads which present themselves with a countdown, making the user wait for a period of time before they can close them and move on to view the site content.

Google said that websites are evaluated by examining a sample of pages from the site.
