Catholic School Teacher Fired After Marrying Love Of Her Life--A Woman

The first-grade teacher, who had taught at the school for almost seven years, returned to her job Wednesday after marrying her partner in a same-sex wedding ceremony over the weekend.

Jocelyn Morffi has been a first grade teacher for the past seven years at Sts. Diminish and Paul Catholic School central that she needed to leave.

Photos of the couple's Floridian beach wedding were posted on Facebook along with a video of their first dance. Peter and Paul Catholic School's decision and are demanding answers after Jocelyn Morffi, a beloved teacher, was dismissed, the Miami Herald reported.

Likewise, Florida law does not address discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment.

"This weekend, I married the love of my life and, unfortunately, I was terminated from my job as a result", she wrote on her Instagram page. 'In their eyes I'm not the right kind of Catholic for my choice in partner'.

Parents learned of the firing in a letter they received from the school on Thursday evening, which did not give a reason for the decision.

Parents say they were outraged to learn about Morffi's termination.

They said that she was not even given the chance to collect her personal belongings from her classroom. They obviously didn't know Morffi was gay, however Cintia Cini said they couldn't have cared less when they discovered. She just does everything in love.

"Any Catholic teacher who signs a contract with the Archdiocese of Miami is acknowledging that policies and procedures will be followed and will abide by the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church", the spokeswoman said in a statement emailed to The Post.

Cini said she didn't know that Morffi was gay, but that it didn't matter to her or other parents.

"Today a hard and necessary decision has been made regarding Ms. Jocelyn Morffi, our first grade teacher".

A group of approximately 20 parents convened on the school's campus and demanded an explanation from the principal, on Friday. "If something along the way does not continue to stay within that contract, then we have no other choice".

But parents at the school plan to continue protesting the firing.

Ms Morffi is considering legal action, according to her lawyer.

Another parent, Ricardo Oviedo, told WPLG: "What she does at home, that's none of our concern".

The teacher added that she now also has to try and find a new venue for Teach Hope - her movement that feeds the homeless, which she had operated with help from the school.

"This is really bad", said Valentina Simon.
