Zac Efron transformed into violent killer Ted Bundy for new role

He is one of the most famous serial killers of all time.

"Meet Ted. #behindthescenes", the actor captioned the black and white photo which features Efron on set taking a mug shot while wearing a white T-shirt and high-waisted trousers. Following his arrest, Bundy would confess to 30 murders across seven states and was executed for his crimes in 1989.

Bundy chose to represent himself at the trial, which was broadcast on national television, and appeared to develop something of a rapport with the judge.

The film which is told from the perspective of Ted's longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, goes into the mind of Ted Bundy, who back in the 1970's murdered over 30 women. She recently starred in Okja on Netflix.

Joe Berlinger directs the film, having previously established himself as a compelling documentarian of a variety of true crime stories.

"Zac is ideal casting, as he can play both the depth and the charm that this guy had in equal measures, and which allowed him to manipulate these women in such a terrifying way", co-producer Michael Costigan (Ghost in the Shell, Out of the Furnace), said in a statement.

Efron is set to star as the villain in upcoming film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
