YouTube is officially screwing over small creators

YouTube is officially screwing over small creators

The change follows controversy surrounding popular vlogger Logan Paul, who posted footage of his visit to Japan's Aokigahara forest, a well-known suicide black spot at the foot of Mount Fuji, last week. Beginning Tuesday, YouTube is tightening its control over who can join the Partner Program.

To begin with, new channels must now have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of viewing time within the past 12 months to qualify for ads, also known as the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).

YouTube has updated its eligibility requirement for monetisation.

The downfall from the upload has been massive, and now everybody is feeling it. Google announced changes coming to Youtube regarding monetization.

A significant number of channels are expected to be impacted by the change.

Google's YouTube network on Tuesday announced stricter rules for video creators hoping to be compensated for their work, its latest reaction to criticism that it encourages increasingly unsafe and exploitive videos by enabling their creators to make money off viral videos.

The videos being targeted are ones Google packages to advertisers as "preferred" content.

Advocates Preparing For Large ICE Raid In California
Known as the Basic Ordering Agreement, the deal struck between 17 Florida sheriffs and U.S. An official with ICE told ABC7 News he can't speculate about future operations.

Paul was booted from the Google Preferred program, a marketplace that connects the largest advertisers with the top 5% of YouTube creators, effectively removing him from the premium income derived from the program. The company didn't name names, but the video network has been stymied by a wave of, videos aimed at kids and videos of children that became grounds for predators - all attracting millions of viewers and escalating criticism that its oversight is too lax.

Google also announced plans to launch a three-tier "suitability system" allowing advertisers to voice what they think are appropriate brand placements.

Advertisers don't want their ads — YouTube's lifeblood — running next to troubling videos.

In recent months, YouTube has found itself at the center of several scandals involving inappropriate content on the site.

According to the platform, the change will allow for fewer competition amongst creators applying to have their content monetized, as the rules are created to restrict the number of those eligible for advertising on their channel.

It'll come as something of a surprise then that the popular YouTuber has taken over two weeks to upload a video about the controversial Logan Paul suicide video.

While the move doesn't mean Paul will be suspended from YouTube entirely, the loss of his Google Preferred status means that he will no longer be able to rake in the big ad dollars that he had previously from his work posted on the platform.
