Wells Fargo glitch processed bill payments twice for some customers

The Jan. 17 glitch reportedly emptied several customers' accounts after processing their online bill payments twice and doubling transaction fees.

"The issue was corrected overnight, and customers should now see their correct balances, "Wells Fargo spokesperson Hilary O'Byrne said".

Wells Fargo provided the following statement to CNBC.

Frustrated customers had reported long wait times when they called the bank's service line. Any fees or charges incurred because of the error will be taken care, he added before apologizing for the mistake.

"Had an issue with my Wells Fargo online account", wrote a Twitter user named TJ Parks. "We apologize for any inconvenience". We are now working to correct it, and there is no action required for impacted customers at this time. "Thanks for your patience", the company tweeted Wednesday evening. "You take over $1,500 of my hard-earned money I'm supposed to be ok with a simple "sorry"?!"

According to a CNN report, the bank would not release how customers were affected by the glitch.
