Gary Rowett was perceived to be the favourite before he signed a contract extension with Derby County leaving O'Neill and former Watford manager Sanchez Flores in the frame.

Quique Sanchez Flores indicates that he has made a decision to remain at Espanyol, rather than sign a long-term contract with Premier League side Stoke City.

"I belong to Espanyol".

Killen died on Thursday night was pronounced dead at the hospital at Mississippi State Penitentiary, correction officials said. The three men were initially considered missing, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined in the search to find them.

O'Neill is understood to have rejected a contract at Goodison Park as he was unhappy with the length of the deal, which paved the way for Allardyce to replace Ronald Koeman last month.

O'Neill has still not decided whether to accept their offer as he and his assistant Roy Keane are excited by the challenge of building a new, younger Ireland squad during their European Nations Cup campaign, which starts later this year.

First-team coach Eddie Niedzwiecki will take charge of Monday's Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
