Newcastle's Peter Beardsley takes 'period of leave' as bullying investigation continues

Former England star Peter Beardsley is to take leave from his job at Newcastle United while it investigates bullying and racism claims.

As reported by the Dailymail, Beardsley has allegedly made racist comments to one of his players during a trip to Go Ape, an outdoor adventure company which runs Tree Top Adventures, Forest Segways, Tree Top Junior Adventures and Zip Trekking Adventures.

Former England global Peter Beardsley is stepping down from his role as under-23s coach at Newcastle it was announced Tuesday, JAN. 9, 2017, while being investigated over allegations of bullying and racism.

The complaints centre on an allegation from 22-year-old winger Yasin Ben El-Mhanni, who claims Beardsley humilitated him. It is hoped the investigation will conclude quickly.

The 56-year-old, who has been accused of bullying and racism by academy players, was called to a meeting with managing director Lee Charnley and head of safeguarding Steve Swinyard on Monday.

Shortly afterward, he was pronounced dead by three doctors at the prison, having found no signs of life. It is not known what caused his vital signs to slow to the point at which he was believed dead.

Newcastle United have launched an investigation after an allegation of bullying was made against Under-23s coach Peter Beardsley.

The complainants are due to give their evidence later this week.

The club are not commenting on the matter, but it is understood that a grievance meeting has been scheduled.

No decision has yet been made about Beardsley's long-term future at the club he graced in two separate spells as a player.
