Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens acknowledges affair, denies blackmail allegations

Following Greitens' denial of blackmail, the allegations are growing worse.

Greitens has acknowledged being "unfaithful" in his marriage, but his attorney has denied allegations contained in a recorded conversation between the woman and her ex-husband that Grietens coerced the women to remain silent by taking a photo of her with her trousers down.

Greitens and his wife, Sheena, issued a statement on Wednesday night.

As to whether Greitens will still attend the convention or speak, "that is a decision that he and his wife will have to make in the coming weeks as they figure out how best to move forward", Brooks said.

On Thursday evening, Kimberly M. Gardner, the circuit attorney for the city of St. Louis, released a statement saying that she has made a decision to launch a formal investigation into the allegations against Governor Greitens.

A day earlier, Greitens had acknowledged a months-long extramarital affair, after a local news station, KMOV, reported he had a sexual relationship with his hairdresser in 2015.

In the recording, KMOV-TV reported, the woman says that Greitens told her that if she were to speak about the encounter, he would distribute a photo of her.

The governor, who billed himself as a values-based family man, said in a statement that being unfaithful in his marriage was a "deeply personal mistake". "Eric took responsibility, and we dealt with this together honestly and privately", the statement reads.

Greitens and his wife responded to the report in a joint statement, saying "there was a time when he was unfaithful in our marriage". Pritzker was ready and responded with two ads of his own. Watkins said he made a decision to do so after members of the media continued to contact him about the affair and even called one of his young children, leaving the minor in a "position of abject horror about what's gone on".

New Protest Calls As Tunisia Marks Uprising Anniversary
The protests draw on anger over price and tax increases included in this year's budget that took effect on 1 January. The president said he would visit a disadvantaged neighbourhood of Tunis that had been the scene of street protests.

Senator Doug Libla (R) - District 25 said he has asked the Attorney General's office to investigate the allegations. Temple told The Associated Press that he met with the woman's ex-husband several times in September 2016. "And I think most of my colleagues do also".

A St. Louis prosecutor on Thursday said she would investigate allegations that Greitens threatened to blackmail the woman.

The woman allegedly involved did not comment on the record to the station, which released its report late Wednesday after Greitens gave his State of the State speech.

Thursday, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner announced that she was launching a formal investigation. "I have chose to launch a formal investigation into the alleged actions of Governor Greitens", Gardner said in a statement.

Gardner added, "It is essential for residents of the City of St. Louis and our state to have confidence in their leaders". Ever. Like I said, nothing, period, had ever happened or taken place until this snowball. Schatz said he explained to the governor: "Before I render judgment, I want to see all the facts".

He thanked "God's mercy" for helping his wife Sheena forgive him. The woman did not know her then-husband was recording their conversation.

But Greitens said "I can't, I can't be seen with you". If the Prosecuting Attorney has a legal conflict or lacks the resources to pursue an investigation, he or she may seek assistance from the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys and the Attorney General's Office. "The outrageous claims of improper conduct regarding these nearly three-year-ago events are false".

An additional statement from Sheena Greitens said: "We have a loving marriage and an awesome family; anything beyond that is between us and God".

"Those Democrats who asked for my resignation were very slow, or did not ask for either Warren Love's resignation or Governor Greitens' resignation", Chappelle-Nadal said.
