Great Britain set record medal target for Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang 2018

Intel's ambitious plans for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang include producing the largest-scale virtual reality event with official broadcast rights partners such as NBC. Supported devices included Windows Mixed Reality headsets, Samsung Gear VR, and both Google Cardboard and Google Daydream, with compatible iOS or Android devices.

According to NBC, this will be the first time that Olympic VR programming will be available live in the USA on siuch a wide range of devices and platforms.

In the USA, this content will be available via the forthcoming NBC Sports VR app and will permit selection of various camera angles (typically between three to six options per event) in addition to the immersive panoramic views. Viewers can switch between the cameras, receive "natural sound" captured at each camera location, and see real-time stats, leaderboards and postevent results.

For PyeongChang, the opening and closing ceremonies will be streamed in VR, as will alpine skiing, snowboarding, curling, skeleton, figure skating, ice hockey and ski jumping, among other sports.

They also can fly through the VR Olympic world, tour Winter Games venues and visit different parts of the Korean peninsula, NBC Olympics said. Olympic Broadcasting Services will supply NBC Olympics with the live VR programming. NBC also will offer VR replays of all events previously livestreamed and one daily 360-degree video of a sport not available in VR.

"The Olympics have always been an opportunity to showcase emerging media technology".

What's more, the collection will be available online and in select stores on January 15 - before the Winter Olympics even begin!
