FIat Chrysler Recalls 1.5 Million Ram Pickup Trucks

Fiat Chrysler has put a recall on almost 1.8 million ram trucks. Specifically, the company is asking to fix certain Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks years 2010-2017; Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs years 2011-2017 with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of less than 10,000 pounds and Ram 1500 pickup trucks years 2009-2017. The recall excludes all 2017 Ram trucks built after 31 December 2016.

Reuters reported that lawyers for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and owners of the automaker's diesel-powered vehicles are in settlement talks over allegations of excess diesel emissions, a court-appointed adviser said.

The company's head of safety compliance and product analysis, Tom McCarthy, says the fault will be fixed in all recalled vehicles, but advises caution before that happens. In such circumstances, a vehicle may exhibit inadvertent movement - if its parking brake has not been set.

They are urging drivers to always use parking brakes as a safeguard.

In short, overheated units negatively affect the performance fo the shift interlock, potentially compromising it and causing it to fail, the company noted.

AQR Capital Management LLC boosted its position in shares of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (NYSE:FCAU) by 56.9% during the first quarter, Holdings Channel reports. A gear shifting defect led to a 2016 investigation after actor Anton Yelchin was killed in his Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The recall involves an estimated 1.48 million cars in the USA, the company said. Ram trucks with gearshifts mounted on the floor are unaffected by this newer recall, according to the company. The shifter styles affected by the latest recalls are mounted on the truck's steering column.
