Crystal Palace 21/20 to beat Brighton in Monday's FA Cup derby clash

The video assistant referee (VAR) system made its debut in England last night.

Crystal Palace counterpart Roy Hodgson initially had a different view, saying: "From where we were standing and watching it looked for all the world like he'd handled it".

Hodgson, despite being on the losing side, applauded the VAR system as the Palace manager said: 'We had suspicions at first, without a doubt, and those were fuelled by the people close to the goalkeeper and the players close by.

VAR got the most use on Brighton's victor as claims of handball were quashed by Swarbrick in West London.

"But the vast majority of checks during the game, the VAR will just say "the on-field decision is correct" and move on". The Baggies will be underdogs but will take heart from the fact that they came away from Merseyside with a goalless draw on their last trip to Anfield.

Tomer Hemed tried his luck from distance on the left moments later, although his strike was way off target, while Palace's only chance in the first half saw Andros Townsend denied via a deflection on 14 minutes following good work from Sako on the right to get into the box. It is one of those that will probably not happen like that again, but on the first night it is so hard to call.

However, opponents worry that it is not completely accurate anyway and that the length of time taken to make a decision disrupts the flow and kills the momentum of the game. American Football is an unwatchable, farcical shambles partly because of the inconsistent way they handle video review and the way they make up the rules as they go along. So maybe they'll rethink the location later on.

And to expedite such privatisation move, the government has now made this announcement of permitting 49 per cent FDI. These are meant to liberalise and simplify the FDI policy so as to provide ease of doing business in the country.

"There is so much money for clubs involved that you want mistakes out".

"It's a very simple job in one sense - it's to win football matches and there's quite a few of them throughout the year, 38 in the league and some in the cup, so however boring and simplistic it may sound, we have to get our heads around that. You have got opinions both ways".

Alternately, the VAR can inform the referee that a decision or incident need to be reviewed.

"I knew it didn't touch my hand but I don't know what it touched", Murray said.

The VAR was implemented fairly smoothly during the match but when it was introduced at last summer's Confederations Cup in Russian Federation, there were various teething problems.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is the newest addition to the refereeing team who, along with an assistant VAR, will monitor the game for "clear and obvious errors".

"It's the result of a lot of testing having been done already in a non-game situation, which has really refined this referee to technology interface".
