As Trump begins second year, women stage nationwide protests

Several thousand people took to the streets in the Cambridge/Boston Women's March 2018.

Linda Boyd wore a sweater from the Women's March in Washington, D.C., last year, a protest that drew thousands of women in pink "pussy hats" immediately following Trump's inauguration.

Fuelled by anger over Trump's divisive policies and boasts of sexual misconduct, hundreds of thousands of people organized marches around the world and used the events to proclaim messages of inclusion, equality and empowerment. "I've tried to kind of protect their innocence, and I see now that we're going to have to start exposing them to what's really going on in the world, partly because this fight is only starting, and they're going to have to be the ones to finish it".

Like past year, many women donned the unmistakable pink knit "pussy hats" as they marched through Midtown.

Some Hollywood stars also showed up for the event, including Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria, Olivia Munn, Scarlett Johansson, and Viola Davis, among others.

Helen Morrison, an organizer of the march in Sydney, N.S., said the #MeToo movement opened many people's eyes to what women, regardless of background, are experiencing.

"Women are scared to speak, and because I was vilified by everything I said, I was called a prostitute for being raped", she said at the rally. Part of our resistance is focusing on how we will use our vote to create the future we want. One woman donned a T-shirt with the likeness of social justice icon Woody Guthrie, who wrote "This Land Is Your Land".

"600,000 strong", the mayor tweeted after the event. Both of Maryland's US senators were among the speakers.

Amazon's cashier-free grocery store finally opens to the public tomorrow
Monday through Friday, and is meant to help speed up the shopping experience by ditching the traditional checkout. However, retailers know that the faster customers can make their purchases, the more likely they are to return.

"As an Indian American Hindu woman, I march for a diverse, welcoming America where every member of my interfaith, multi-racial, immigrant family - and everyone else, wherever they came from and however they got here - has equal rights and opportunities", said Dr. Khyati Joshi, a Fairleigh Dickinson University professor specializing in immigrant communities and race in America.

Furthermore, Trump's one-year anniversary in office was an eventful one, with a government shutdown and Women's Marches rebuking Trump in cities across the country.

In Oakland, about 18 km northeast of San Francisco, police estimated more than 30,000 people shouted and streamed through downtown Oakland. Trump has appointed conservative judges and empowered federal agency leaders who have approved work requirements for Medicaid, religious exemptions for doctors who oppose abortion, and changes to campus guidelines for sexual assault.

"Big 2018!" the president said in a tweet.

Posting on Twitter Saturday, Kont said: "There are better ways to empower women instead of playing identity politics in a march".

In Park City, Utah, where the annual Sundance Film Festival is in full swing, actress Jane Fonda and nationally known attorney Gloria Allred joined the women's march. "But I'm excited to be able to fix it", she said, clad in a red and blue Superwoman outfit.

Dilcia Molina held up a sign in Spanish calling for the protection of immigrant women.

With widespread criticism of the policies of the Trump Administration dominating the marches this Saturday across the country, the participants chanted one of their slogans, dedicated to the president on the anniversary of his arrival at the White House "Welcome to your first year, why the hell are you still here?".
