And the North American Car of the Year is …

The Car, SUV and Truck of the year announced Monday morning at the North American International Auto Show in Detorit. The 2018 Honda Accord, 2018 Volvo XC60, and 2018 Lincoln Navigator were the big winners this year.

Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice-president for Honda's auto sales division, said the award represents "not resting on past. achievements". Honda beat out the also-redesigned 2018 Toyota Camry and the all-new 2018 Kia Stinger in the awards.

Honda appears to have pulled off a "magic trick" with the Accord, which is appealing even in its less expensive trim levels, said in a release. The newest Accord, the nameplate's 10th generation, was praised in particular for looking low and sleek but surprising with more room than its predecessor.

"The 2018 Navigator received a more dramatic update than its Ford Expedition sibling and its impact for the brand will be stronger as a result", said Daily News Autos' own Ron Sessions, a juror for the annual awards.

2018 marks the third year the panel has opted to have a separate utility category. "The ride is exemplary, and when smartly equipped, it is a fine value".

According to the guidelines, the awards recognize the most outstanding vehicles of the year based on factors including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar.
