The farthest massive 'Black-hole' discovered by scientists

At the center of a distant galaxy, scientists have found the oldest black hole ever discovered, and it's so freakish it's posing some perplexing questions. The find of this supermassive black hole is puzzling astronomers because they can't figure out how this black hole was formed so early in the universe's history.

The newly detected quasar, designated as J1342+0928, existed during a fundamental shift in the nature of the early universe when it was moving from its "dark ages", with no light emitted, into a time of luminosity, as gravity condensed matter into the very first stars.

Scientists have discovered a supermassive black hole quasar, which originates from the very beginnings of the universe and it was "born" about 690 million years after the Big Bang. According to our current understanding, it should take more than 690 million years for a supermassive black hole to accrue the mass of 800 million Suns, so the researchers suggest there must be another unknown mechanism at work. Some hundreds of millions of years later, the energetic ultraviolet radiation of the first stars and the accretion disks of the first black holes reionized almost all of the hydrogen in the universe, separating the electrons from the hydrogen nuclei (protons).

This can make the search for them "long and tedious", the site says, but the hunt could lead to more answers about how the universe was formed. This black hole was seen gorging material at the centre of the galaxy.

The universe began in a hot soup of particles that rapidly spread apart in a period called inflation.

Bram Venemans says: "Models of galaxy evolution will need to be able to explain how a galaxy could form the stars needed to produce the observed amounts of dust and heavier chemical elements in such a comparatively short time". As more stars turned on throughout the universe, their photons reacted with neutral hydrogen, ionizing the gas and setting off what's known as the epoch of re-ionization.

Democrats will enter the White House meeting knowing their support is crucial to Senate Republicans passing any spending bills. Some Republicans want a large boost in the defense cap, and Democrats are demanding an equal increase in non-defense spending.

Caltech in Pasadena, California, manages JPL for NASA. Even older examples could be discovered, scientists said.

These massive black holes with masses larger than of the Sun are thought to lurk in most galaxies. Stars and galaxies were first appearing and their radiation ionizing the surrounding hydrogen gas to illuminate the cosmos.

Much bigger black holes are out there, but none so far away - at least among those found so far. Bañados says: "Gathering all this mass in fewer than 690 million years is an enormous challenge for theories of supermassive black hole growth".

Geballe said that was possible because of Maunakea's superb observing conditions.

This research was supported, in part, by the National Science Foundation (NSF), with support from construction of FIRE from NSF and from Curtis and Kathleen Marble.
