Morgan Stanley fires former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. for misconduct

Harold Ford Jr., a former congressman turned Wall Street rainmaker, was sacked by the financial services firm Morgan Stanley in recent days "for conduct inconsistent with our values and in violation of our policies", the company said in a statement on Thursday.

A spokesman for the financial firm said this week that he was sacked for 'conduct inconsistent with our values and in violation of our policies'.

After losing his Senate campaign, Ford Jr. was hired by Morgan Stanley and also started a media career. The investment bank launched a human resources investigation after the woman accused Ford Jr. of harassment and the results led to his dismissal.

"In regards to news today, This simply did not happen", Ford said. "I have never forcibly grabbed any woman or man in my life", Ford wrote. During that campaign, a negative political ad aimed at Ford Jr. caused a firestorm when it mentioned his attendance at a 2005 Superbowl party hosted by Playboy.

'Having drinks and dinner for work is part of my job and all of my outreach to [the woman] making these false allegations was professional and at the direction of my firm for business purposes'.

With defenders in short supply, he may be asked to fulfil a similar role at the Tsirio Stadium on Thursday evening. This team is doing well in the domestic competition and at home, I think they will fancy a win over Everton .

Ford strongly denied the allegations in a statement, writing: "I support and have tremendous respect for the fearless women now speaking out in this important national dialogue". He also said he intends to file a lawsuit against Morgan Stanley over his "improper termination" and separately sue a HuffPost reporter over "these false claims".

At the time Morgan Stanley announced the hire, The New York Times described Ford's role as a rainmaker of sorts: "Mr. Ford will be responsible for "building business opportunities" for clients, Morgan Stanley said".

The woman said that Ford harassed, intimidated, and forcibly grabbed her while they were out professionally one night in Manhattan.

Since leaving Congress in 2007, Ford has worked for two financial services companies, first for Merrill Lynch and then Morgan Stanley, which he joined in 2011 as a managing director.
