Katie Taylor retains WBA world lightweight title

"It was an absolute privilege to be boxing here in the York Hall".

"This is the ideal end to a flawless year", said Taylor.

"It was a very, very tough fight". I thought I boxed well on the outside.

Warned in the seventh and a point deducted from Taylor for holding again, McCaskill continued to rough up the champion in perhaps Taylor's worst round of the fight.

McCaskill, for her part, gave as good as she had and deserves enormous credit for her performance against the former European and world amateur champion. I just want to be involved in the biggest fights possible.

The final scorecards confirmed the news that Taylor won the fight by unanimous decision on all three judges' scorecards.

"Katie ran a lot and potshotted, I thought beforehand that she wanted a fight in the middle of the ring".

There's only one thing on Taylor's mind heading into 2018 and that is to secure all of the world-title belts at lightweight and establish herself as a domineering force in boxing.

McCaskill trapped Taylor on the ropes in the seventh round and there was an exchange of words between the fighters, with Taylor appearing to invite her opponent on. I would love to have a homecoming fight in Dublin and unify the division'. I was created to box and every time I step in here I know this is what I was supposed to do.

"I'm living this life that I dreamt of and I'm so grateful for that". "I want all the belts and make history in this sport".

There has also been speculation about Taylor fighting American Holly Holm, the 36-year-old UFC fighter from Albuquerque who had a successful boxing career until 2013.

Taylor, one of the biggest global names in women's boxing, only won the the WBA belt with a unanimous points win over Argentina's Anahi Sanchez for the WBA belt on October 28.

"CasKILLA" then landed a stunning, crunching left hook which wobbled the champion in the sixth, forcing Taylor to hold on and try and see out the round.

Taylor's lightning footwork was evident in the fourth with McCaskill struggling to keep pace with the classy Irishwoman. It was some attractive reactionary counters from Taylor and the crowd were enjoying watching her make McCaskill miss.

The American had sent a plastic chicken to the Taylor camp back in June to try and goad the 31-year-old into taking the bout. Taylor took a heavy left to the face, but fired back with her own.

McCaskill had a strong round 3 however, really going for it in fairness and planting her feet.

In the next round Taylor was docked a point for holding but she pulled away during the final couple of rounds and was a convincing victor on all the judges' scorecards.

It was pretty much all Taylor for the first half of the fight. Despite her inclination to go toe-to-toe, Taylor remained patient and kept boxing from a distance.

Conor Benn extended his unbeaten professional record to 11 wins against Cedrick Peynaud, despite being knocked down twice in the opening round.
