Fitbit Ionic Update Adds More Apps and Watch Faces

Fitbit Ionic Update Adds More Apps and Watch Faces

Three more apps - a mood-tracking watchface, a tennis-tracking app, and a treasure-hunting game - are also slated to roll out in for Fitbit Labs testers later this month. Fitbit OS was quite laggy, and there were only a handful of third-party apps available at launch.

The software update also brings nearly 30 free apps and more than 80 watch faces to the App Gallery from smaller developers, which will finally give Ionic owners something to do on their wrists. Previously only four apps were available for the Ionic, and now Fitbit is adding dozens more. Fitbit says more than 1,000 developers have already started building apps or clock faces for the Ionic, while there are over 5,000 developers that have joined the company's new developer community and registered for the public SDK. The company noted in a blog post that 60 apps and 100 watch faces have been added or are coming soon to the Ionic ecosystem.

Leading the charge are 14 new apps from major companies that have been designed specifically for Fitbit's platform: Surfline, Clue, Game Golf, Hue Lights, Walgreens, Nest, Yelp, Flipboard, The New York Times, TripAdvisor, Uber, United Airlines, British Airways, and Lyft. And more bank cards will be usable with the watch's mobile payments app, too.

Fitbit created a couple of goodies as well, including a Leaderboard app that will let you see how your step totals compare to family and friends.

The Ionic will also gain the ability to stream music through Deezer sometime in 2018. The list of participating Fitbit Pay banks has expanded to 25 banks in 13 markets.

Australia to ban foreign interference in politics
Anyone who engages with Australian politics on behalf of a foreign state will be required to register their ties. She said 97 per cent of donations last financial year were under $100 and were sourced from 57,149 individuals.

Jon Oakes, Fitbit's vice president of product, said the update was "just the start" of planned future enhancements.

Improved performance - Fitbit's updated touchscreen performance of the Ionic so it's faster and more fluid to use.

The Fitbit Ionic earned an "excellent" rating in PCMag's review. And after using this new software update on my Ionic for a few minutes, I'm happy to report that numerous lag issues are gone.

Now, Fitbit is tackling both concerns - and more - with the smartwatch's first major update.
