Def Jam Co-founder Accused Of Rape By Three Women

Music mogul Russell Simmons stepped down from Def Jam, which he co-founded, following multiple accusations of sexual assault.

In a story published Wednesday by The New York Times, four new women detailed a pattern of alleged violent sexual behavior by Simmons, 60, disclosing incidents from 1988 to 2014.

Between the New York Times and Los Angeles Times' reporting, five more women have alleged sexual misconduct from Simmons that ranges from attempting to force one to perform oral sex on him in 1996 to using vulgar language during a 2016 business meeting with actress Amanda Seales to ask if they had ever had sex.

Simmons is vehemently denying these new allegations and released a statement.

He added: "I have enormous respect for the women's movement worldwide and their struggle for respect, dignity, equality and power".

Sallie reportedly told several friends about the alleged incident at the time, but was afraid to take the claim to the police and was anxious about what effect it might have on the beginnings of her career.

Tina Baker was an up and coming singer in the early 1990's and said had huge dreams when he agreed to manage her, and says that after he allegedly raped her that her singing career vanished.

The musician claims she didn't sing for nearly a year after the alleged assault, claiming, "I went into oblivion".

Like other victims, Dixon told friends about the alleged assault shortly after it happened, but chose not to report it to authorities at the time.

"I remember realizing I was cornered", Dixon said after rejecting Simmons advances, "and I just blacked out".

Numerous women claimed Simmons would invite them back to his apartment or hotel room. After a showing her around, she said, he brought her into his bedroom and raped her. She fought him and said no, but he raped her, she said. "I did nothing. I shut my eyes and waited for it to end". He also exposed himself to her in his office.

Drew Dixon told the New York Times she was working as an executive at Def Jam Recordings in 1995 when Simmons started to act sexually abusive. She said that he raped her in his apartment that year. She told the Times that while giving her a tour of the apartment, Simmons threw her on a bed and raped her.

Simmons - who settled with Dixon in 1997 after she threatened to sue him for sexual harassment - denied having sex with her, but admitted to engaging in "inappropriate conduct".

But the newspaper also reported an incident in 2014 in which a woman said Simmons touched her inappropriately after encountering him in a Miami hotel. She claims that Simmons led her and a friend to his Soho Beach House room under false pretenses and fled after he pushed her against a wall and groped her.

Lumet claimed that Simmons - who said her recollection of the night was different from his own - took her to his apartment against her will and sexually violated her. Khalighi said Simmons assaulted her and coerced her into performing oral sex while Brett Ratner was present, according to a report from The Los Angeles Times on November 19.

Simmons denied the claims and said the encounter was consensual.

Simmons subsequently apologized for being "thoughtless and insensitive" and announced he was stepping down from his companies. He added, "While there are many women with whom I have shared extraordinary relationships, whether through work or love, I regret with my whole heart any conduct that has led anyone to say or think of me in the ways that are now being written". Three of the women claim Simmons raped them.

He said he would "relentlessly fight against any untruthful character assassination that paints me as a man of violence". In the last few days, one woman attempted to extort me for $500,000 only to recant her ridiculous claim.
