Deadline to link Aadhaar with banks, PAN extended indefinitely by govt

The government has extend the deadline for linking Aadhaar with financial investments/instruments to March 31, 2018 from the present deadline of December 31, 2017, as reportred by ET Now.

A notification issued on Tuesday by the Finance Ministry's revenue department said the new deadline would be notified by the Central government after due consultations.

Earlier on October 30, the apex court referred all the Aadhaar related cases to a five-judge Constitution bench to be formed by the end of November. It amended the Prevention of Money-laundering rules to incorporate the new provision.

The announcement by the government comes ahead of the hearing on Thursday, December 14, by a Supreme Court bench of Justices Dipak Misra, A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud.

According to the notification, the words "submit the Aadhaar number and PAN by December 31, 2017" were now substituted by "submit the Aadhaar number, PAN or Form No 60 by such date as may be notified by the Central government".

Numerous petitions have been filed challenging primarily the Centre's push to make Aadhaar mandatory for a host of services.

While the deadline for linking PAN to Aadhaar was said to be extended to March 31, 2018 on December 7, the official documentation maintained December 31 as the final date.
