Cubs give RHP Chatwood a three-year deal

The three-year deal is worth $38M through the 2020 season for the 27-year-old who spent five seasons with the Colorado Rockies.

But with the likely departures of free agents Jake Arrieta and John Lackey - 40 percent of their rotation over the last two seasons - the Cubs still need a starter. His loss total last season tied for the most in the National League.

He is 40-46 with a 4.31 ERA in six major league seasons.

Chatwood, who turns 28 next week, was 8-15 with a 4.69 ERA in 33 appearances, including 25 starts, for Colorado a year ago.

Kaalakandi first poster: Saif Ali Khan's look will leave you amused
Lead actors of the upcoming film Kaalakaandi launched the trailer of the film at an event in Mumbai on December 6, 2017. Last but not the least, when asked if he liked Sara's first look from Kedarnath , Saif said, "I will wait".

Chatwood passes the age test with his 28th birthday coming next weekend, and his GB% and road numbers suggest that he will be a fine addition in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.

Chatwood sported a 6.01 ERA and 1.68 WHIP at hitter-friendly Coors Field past year, but his numbers on the road indicate the Cubs may have acquired a nice under-the-radar starting pitcher: 3.49 ERA, 1.23 WHIP. He figures to slot into the rotation behind Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks and Jose Quintana.

Carrie Muskat of MLB.com passed along word of the free-agent signing.

More runs were scored at Coors Field than any other park in 2017, per ESPN. The Cubs will need him to provide consistency and plenty of quality starts in 2018, a tall order for someone who has always pitched from the middle to the back end of the rotation. He also underwent TJ surgery in high school.
