Bukola Saraki- "Court of appeal verdict vindicates me"

Bukola Saraki-

In a statement released on his Facebook page, signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Saraki described the Federal Government's claims against him as preposterous, and that it has "fallen like a pack of cards and lack any basis".

The 3-man panel, led by Justice Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson, had reportedly reserved judgment after the parties adopted briefs on November 14.

The court however upheld the ruling of the CCT on the remaining 15-count on the grounds that the prosecution was unable to prove the charges against the Senate President.

But the court ruled that Saraki, the former Governor of Kwara State, had a case to answer with respect to three of the counts numbered 4, 5, and 6.

While the case was ongoing, some Nigerians had maintained that the Senate President's travails at the CCT was not unconnected with his emergence as the Senate President against his APC party design.

Similarly, the court faulted the prosecution for failing to call the relevant witnesses to support its allegation that Saraki operated a foreign account while he was in office as governor of Kwara State.

The court, however, said instead of the 18 grounds on which the trial was premised, only three were tenable.

2 killed at Penn State's Beaver County campus
The campus' official Twitter account confirmed that the shooting occurred and the campus was closed but would reopen on Thursday . 2 people are dead after a murder-suicide at the Penn State Beaver campus in Center Township, Beaver County.

The Justice Danladi Umar-led panel of the CCT had in June upheld a no case submission made by Saraki's lawyers, Kanu Agabi, Paul Erokoro, Paul Usoro, and Mahmud Magaji, all Senior Advocates of Nigeria, who contended that the prosecution failed to establish a prima-facie case against him.

Not satisfied with the ruling, the federal government approached the appellate court to upturn the decision.

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has stated that it will be working for the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari to blame past administrations for the rate of unemployment in the country.

Meanwhile, both Saraki's legal team and the EFCC team have hinted that they will both cross-appeal the decision of the Court of Appeal at the Supreme Court.

"The confidence and faith of Dr. Saraki in the nation's judiciary and its ability to dispense justice to all manners of people remains unshaken".

The Senate president has been dogged by legal cases since taking office.
