Trump Jr. Communicated With WikiLeaks Before Election

Donald Trump Jr. privately messaged with WikiLeaks on multiple occasions leading up to the 2016 presidential election, according to a new report.

Requests from WikiLeaks kept coming in after the election.

WikiLeaks also had a plan for if Trump lost the election, which it reportedly conveyed to Trump Jr. on Election Day: "Hi Don if your father "loses" we think it is much more interesting if he DOES NOT conceed [sic] and spends time CHALLENGING the media and other types of rigging that occurred-as he has implied that he might do".

According to a source familiar with the congressional investigations into Russian interference with the 2016 campaign, who requested anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, on the same day that Trump Jr. received the first message from Wikileaks, he emailed other senior officials with the Trump campaign, including Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Brad Parscale, and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, telling them Wikileaks had made contact.

WikiLeaks used very familiar language with Trump Jr. In Oct. 2016, WikiLeaks wrote to Trump Jr.to ask "if you guys could comment on/push this story", and attached a remark from Hillary Clinton saying she wanted to "just drone" Assange. "It's incredible what she can get away with", Trump Jr. reportedly replied.

WikiLeaks appeared to develop a correspondence with President Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr.

Trump Jr. did not answer the messages, according to the report. Indeed, one DM makes Trump Jr. seem clueless about WikiLeaks' planned Podesta email dump four days before it began.

Wikileaks continued to send messages to Trump Jr.in the final few weeks of the presidential election. WikiLeaks also variously asked Jr.to leak his father's tax returns ("If we publish them it will dramatically improve the perception of our impartiality."); tell Australia to appoint WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as US Ambassador; and, on Election Day a year ago, to challenge the results if Clinton won ("Hi Don if your father "loses" we think it is much more interesting if he DOES NOT conceed [sic] and spends time CHALLENGING the media and other types of rigging that occurred-as he has implied that he might do."). "Obama/Clinton placed pressure on Sweden, UK and Australia (his home country) to illicitly go after Mr. Assange", the account wrote to Trump Jr.

The messages were turned over by Trump Jr.to congressional investigators, and were apparently leaked to The Atlantic.

WikiLeaks wrote: "If we publish them it will dramatically improve the perception of our impartiality". Leaked emails published by The New York Times show Trump Jr. arranged the meeting at Trump Tower in New York.
