Tim Piazza death investigation

"The Penn State Office of Student Conduct has completed the student conduct investigation and disciplinary process for 32 individuals related to the tragic death of Timothy Piazza at the now-banned Beta Theta Pi fraternity".

Five of the new defendants are charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Flanked by Piazza's parents, Centre County district attorney Stacy Parks Miller told reporters that 12 new defendants, as well as five old ones, were facing new criminal charges, including involuntary manslaughter, hazing and giving alcohol to minors. The D.A. said that video was deleted while police were at the house, but was recovered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The house's security system had captured numerous events the night Piazza was injured and that footage had already been played at a preliminary hearing for those charged previously.

Miller is also accusing a fraternity member of deleting the video as police were seeking the footage in February. "However, after later examining one of the DVR surveillance boxes, State College Police uncovered evidence that the basement camera footage had actually been manually deleted just as State College Police were poised to take possession of the recording equipment".

More than a dozen members of a Penn State University frat are facing additional charges in the highly-publicized hazing death of Tim Piazza, prosecutors announced Monday. "Brothers were coming up to him and giving him those drinks", she added.

"Piazza never obtained any of those drinks himself", Parks Miller said. That previous footage allegedly depicted Piazza, severely under the influence, falling head-first down the stairs at about 11 p.m. and falling again around 5 a.m., hitting his head against a metal railing. He was later found lying face down at the bottom.

The grand jury document referenced other surveillance footage than the video recovered recently. Members of the fraternity carried Piazza up the steps and put him on the couch.

The saga of Tim Piazza's untimely death continues. When a fraternity member finally called 911 for help, Piazza's skin had turned gray. At least one text was exchanged about "getting rid of any evidence of alcohol" and ensuring that pledges "keep quiet about last night". The fraternity has since been closed. Six students participated in the process and were not charged with any violations.
