Rally protesting Meek Mill's prison sentence to be held Monday

Since his sentence of two to four years for violating his probation, Meek Mill has earned the support of fans and peers.

The former 49ers quarterback took to Instagram to describe incarceration rates in the United States, calling the artist a victim of "systemic oppression". So when she handed down the two-to-four-year sentence, it took many by surprise.

He wrote [in part]: "Disproportionately America's prisons are filled with Black bodies". A flyer for the rally reads, "Our criminal justice system has failed Meek Mill and millions of others like him".

Many in the crowd chanted "Free Meek Mill" and sang the rapper's "Dreams and Nightmares" intro together.at the rally, which was planned to begin in front of Philadelphia's Criminal Justice Center at 5 p.m.

Judge Genece Brinkley is reportedly being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for possible relationships she might have in Philly - including to a local music mogul she allegedly asked Meek to sign with - as well as a possible "extortionate demand". according to the New York Post.

Rubin also vowed his support for the rapper, writing, "I want you to know that I am personally invested in helping him so that he can help others".

Though some say prosecutors might streamline the presentation a second time around. If the jury is unable to reach a verdict, Walls could declare a mistrial.

Earlier this year, the rapper was arrested for engaging in a fight at the St. Louis airport.

According to People magazine, Mill was arrested in August and was charged with reckless endangerment in New York City.

Over the last 24 hours, various high-profile entertainers showed their support for today's Philadelphia rally.

Within the letter, Rubin writes Meek Mill is a "good friend" and whom he met well over four years ago at the NBA All-Star Game. I'm asking for mercy.

Brinkley then told Meek: "I gave you break after break and you basically just thumbed your nose at this court".
