Jury Deliberations in Menendez Trial Scheduled to Restart

Jury Deliberations in Menendez Trial Scheduled to Restart

The 12 jurors weighing corruption charges against Sen.

Prosecutor Peter Koski said the jury had been deliberating only a couple of hours with its new juror and asked that Walls tell them to continue talking.

Prosecutors say the senator took gifts such as a luxury hotel stay, private flights and hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations from Melgen and in return Menendez acted as the doctor's "personal senator", advocating on his behalf on various government matters.

The jury resumed deliberations earlier Monday with an alternative, following the dismissal of Arroyo-Maultsby. "Forget about what happened last week".

If the jury is unable to reach a verdict, Walls could declare a mistrial.

Menendez has denied any bribery arrangement.

"I wish her a great vacation, I wish she hadn't left, but I hope that no juror in the jury room feels bullied by another juror", he said. "I would've been fighting in that jury room".

So Lebanese take life one step at a time. "We will carry these concerns to the king and crown prince and wish well", he said. Hariri explained that his resignation was not officially accepted in Lebanon because it was announced from Riyadh.

A juror who was excused from the trial on Thursday gave a glimpse into deliberations, saying most jurors favored acquittal and that she would have cast a not-guilty vote for the New Jersey Democrat on all counts.

Headed into court Monday, Menendez told reporters that he "wished she hadn't left". "And I want you to come back here tomorrow to continue deliberations", Walls said, according to Politico.

Although jurors are supposed to tune out of media coverage related to the Menendez trial, some jurors told Walls on Monday that they had heard Arroyo-Maultsby's remarks. The deliberations were supposed to start from scratch once the alternate juror was seated, but instead, the jury seemed to zoom back into the logjam described by Arroyo-Maultsby. Robert Menendez is deadlocked.

If Judge William Walls formally declares a mistrial, the Justice Department could refile the charges, former federal prosecutors said in CNN's report.

Though some say prosecutors might streamline the presentation a second time around.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican, leaves office on January 16, 2018.
