HTC launches Vive tracker bundles

Amazon is now the only place where you can buy the $150 bundle, which will come with the Hyper Blaster, one Vive Tracker and the game Duck Season. The accessory bundles include a Hyper Blaster gun and tracker with Duck Season for $149.99, and a Racket Sports Set which includes custom molded and weighted rackets and a tracker with Virtual Sports for $149.99.

The more interesting accessory is the Hyper Blaster, in part because it looks a lot like the Zapper that was sold with the original Nintendo Entertainment System for use with the game Duck Hunt. The racket set works with six titles with another five expected by the end of the year. Pre-orders are available via Amazon, Abt Electronics, BH Photo, Fry's, Gamestop, Micro Center and Newegg. The tracker on its own retails for $99.99 each.

Jeremy Chapman and Steve Bowler, developers behind Chicago-based studio CloudGate and their dinosaur hunting game Island 359, have been working for months on a "Virtual Self" created to produce a compelling avatar that matches your real body movements. The trackers also enable full body tracking for VR avatars, as demonstrated by Cloudgate Studio's Island 359, and you could even use them to keep track of your pets while you're wearing your VR HMD. Licensed to other developers, the "Virtual Self" could make it easy to add full bodies in much more VR software. When paired with Vive Tracker, the Hyper Blaster serves as both a gun and motion controller in integrated games such as Duck Season, Arizona Sunshine, The American Dream VR, Operation Warcade, TacticalAR, and Practisim VR. Cloudgate Studio is also gearing up for the Vive Tracker launch, with the "Virtual Self" update for Island 359, which should be available on December 1. Arcades, businesses or people with extremely large rooms to dedicate to VR are the likeliest to benefit from that increased coverage.
