Fernando Torres to Newcastle?

It was the now Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez who brought Torres to England.

Okay, so there were no trophies to celebrate.

Benitez, who left Chelsea at the end of the season, could not keep Newcastle in the Premier League after being appointed near the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

Torres enjoyed a hugely impressive spell in the Premier League with Liverpool, scoring 81 goals, before a disappointing move to Chelsea derailed his career somewhat.

Torres now finds himself paying a bit-part role with his boyhood club Atleti.

Torres has 18 months remaining on his current deal and wants to see out next season with Atleti before hanging up his boots. Both Newcastle and Southampton-teams decidedly lacking in striking power right now-are keen on a Torres loan, The Mirror reports. The World Cup victor is now little more than a squad rotation player at his boyhood club of Atletico Madrid and reports suggest that he desires a return to England.

Offensive explosion fuels Panthers blowout win over Dolphins
The defense couldn't stop the run or find enough pressure to effect the passing of Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Of course, things got worse early in the second half when Carolina took a 24-7 lead that virtually ended the game.

Torres has failed to hit the net in 10 appearances, mostly from the bench, this season but his lack of form doesn't appear to have put off Benitez.

Newcastle United's potential new owners could be set to lay down a marker of intent during the January transfer window, with moves for Everton's Ross Barkley, Manchester United's Luke Shaw and West Ham United's Andy Carroll all being prepared, according to the Daily Star.

Any club wanting to sign Torres would have to pay part of his salary which, annually, is around £2m.

Southampton and Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the World Cup victor, and a switch to the latter would see him once again reunited with Rafael Benitez who worked with him at both Anfield and Stamford Bridge.
