Man booked for molesting minor girl after video goes viral

Mumbai/ Maharashtra, October 21: Advising not to argue, a 16 year old girl fractured her nose.

Mumbai:The video of a teenager thrashing a minor girl went viral on social media on Saturday, creating waves of outrage and anger.

The incident took place on 17 October. Reacting to the complaint the accused was arrested by the police on the same day but got the bail next day.

A minor girl was molested and beaten up by a youth in Nehrunagar area of Kurla suburb here. Shaikh was arrested on Tuesday, but was later granted bail by a local court, police said. The victim was going to her class with a friend at Adarsh Nagar in Thakkar Bappa Colony in Chembur. The passersby did not come to her help before the man had left the scene.

The girl, however, told national TV channels that Shaikh was harassing her for the last few days and that when she complained to her mother about it, she sent her elder sister to talk to the man's mother. When the girl saw Imran talking to his friends very loudly, she had allegedly asked him to speak softly. "Shaikh also punched me in the face due to which I became semi-conscious and my nose was bleeding", the girl wrote in her FIR.

After taking to the nearby hospital, victim was declared suffering from nose fracture. The suspect threatened the girl and fled. "The girl asked them not to make noise and then walked some distance with her friend", the official said. Shaikh is a resident of Shastri Nagar at Chembur and has been charged under voluntarily causing hurt by unsafe weapons or means (Section 324) and punishment for criminal intimidation (Section 506) of Indian Penal Code.

A case has been registered at the Nehru Nagar police station.
