Bharti Airtel launches 4G smartphone at Rs 1399, partners with Karbonn

Airtel notes that while the Karbonn A40 Indian normally costs Rs 3,499 it will be offering the 4G smartphone effectively at the price of a feature phone by bringing a tariff plan into the mix. Airtel has partnered with Karbonn Mobiles to roll out an affordable 4G smartphone to the market. Airtel is however, upping the game by launching a 4G smartphone instead of just a 4G feature phone.

Airtel says that it will be partnering with multiple mobile handset manufacturers to launch more affordable 4G phones at low prices, and match the price of a feature phone.

As for the Karbonn A40 Indian, the 4G smartphone comes with a 4-inch display, a 1.3 Ghz processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable by up to 32GB via micro-SD card.

The A40 smartphone gets it juice from a battery capacity of 1400 mAh.

The Karbonn A40 sports a 2-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

"The Google Certified - Karbonn A40 Indian has a full touch screen plus dual SIM slots, and offers complete access to all apps on Google Play Store, including YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp".

Toddler left at corn maze wasn't reported missing till next day
Staffers called on a bullhorn and searched for his family but couldn't find anyone until his mother called police Tuesday morning. But Schmidt said maze workers and police were unable to locate the boy's family and "we couldn't get him to give us his name".

Coming to the specifications, the partnership aims to defy the price-vs-specs ratio as the A40 Indian is built around a 4-inch display, which bears a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. This means that the consumer will need to pay an upfront cost of Rs 2,899 to acquire the Karbonn A40 Indian. "The core of our business has always been simplified technology and we are more than delighted to expand our network with such associations".

Airtel said that the 4G phone - Karbonn A40 Indian, at a viable cost of Rs 1,399, will come packaged with a month to month revive pack of Rs 169. "However, to claim the cash refund benefit, recharges worth Rs 3000 must be done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund installment of Rs 500) and another Rs 3000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund installment of Rs 1000)", Airtel said in a statement.

Airtel has also launched a new Rs. 169 plan for this phone.

As already expected, Airtel has finally launched a cheap smartphone to compete with JioPhone. All smartphones under this initiative will be available at leading mobile retail stores across the country. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, FM, 3G and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India). This again, is a direct dig at Reliance JioPhone wherein customers have to return the phone to receive the refund.

What do you think about this offering from Airtel and Karbonn?

If the user continues to do the recharge for a period of 18 months, they'll get a refund of Rs 500. The Karbonn A40 Indian has the honor of being the first to be unveiled under the offer.
