UNSC slaps new sanctions on North Korea

The UN Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution on a new round of sanctions against North Korea in response to the country's sixth nuclear test.

It was the eighth series of sanctions imposed on North Korea since it first tested a nuclear device in 2006. The new resolution bans exports of textiles from North Korea and imposes an embargo on gas condensate deliveries to the country.

Joint ventures will be banned and the names of senior North Korean official and three entities were added to a United Nations sanctions blacklist that provides for an assets freeze and a global travel ban.

Trump said it was "nice" to get a 15-0 vote at the United Nations.

"But those sanctions are nothing compared to what ultimately will have to happen", he said without elaborating.

Kim Hyun-Wook of Seoul's Korea National Diplomatic Academy, predicted: "The sanctions will only provide North Korea with an excuse for further provocations, such as an ICBM launch".

"If China doesn't follow these sanctions, we will put additional sanctions on them and prevent them from accessing the U.S. and worldwide dollar system, and that's quite meaningful", Mnuchin said.

And as North Korea puts the Kim regime above all else, any investment or aid would "be exploited first and foremost by the government", Sun said, adding: "We will have to swallow the outcome that of $100 investment, maybe $10 would reach the people".

"I think we've absolutely moved the needle on China", he said.

Has government realised consumers won't ignore steep hike in fuel prices?
Defending the policy for daily revision of fuel prices, he said petrol and diesel prices are deregulated and are market aligned. The central government is not considering reducing the excise tax to bring down the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel.

In order to pressure Beijing and Moscow to do more, the USA has to go after more companies and individuals that are suspected of doing business with the North Korean regime, according to Ruggiero.

North Korea says its weapons development is vital to stave off the threat of a U.S. invasion.

The ambassador said that Pyongyang rejected and condemned the "illegal" resolutions of the UN Security Council, which he says has been turned into a "tool" by Washington with the aim to "isolate and strangle" North Korea.

U.S. State Department and Treasury Department officials testified to the House Foreign Affairs Committee about the U.S. pressure campaign against North Korea's rapid progress toward a nuclear weapon that could strike America.

Earlier, UN banned North Korean exports of coal, ore and other raw materials and limited investments in the country.

The comments Tuesday came as North Korea faced renewed criticism at the Geneva-based body of its recent ballistic missile and nuclear weapons tests. She said the United States would continue to act to disrupt North Korea's illicit activities wherever they are located.

Pyongyang has staged a series of missile tests in recent months that appeared to bring much of the USA mainland into range.

The unit, officially known as the Spartan 3000, has not been assigned to literally decapitate North Korean leaders. "We are closing in on North Korea's trade representatives", he said.

Even if China and Russian Federation do fully enforce the latest sanctions, there's still considerable doubt about whether the stranglehold will force Kim to rethink the development of North Korea's nuclear weapons. USA officials have said they are still assessing whether it was an H-bomb, also known as a thermonuclear weapon, but that "so far there is nothing inconsistent with the North Korean claim that this was a hydrogen bomb". The United States has said that a previous rounds of sanctions agreed in August were aimed at cutting North Korea's $3 billion in exports by a third. Haley continued, "We are not looking for war".
