Two school officials held over student's murder

Seven-year-old Pradhuman Thakur was found murdered on September 8 at Ryan International School in Bhondsi area on the Sohna Road in Haryana's Gurugram district. The police arrested a bus conductor, identified as Ashok Kumar, who was employed by Ryan International School, in connection with the case. It has seen the owners of the school in Gurugram moving the Bombay High Court for anticipatory transit bail, while its CEO Ryan Pinto is being questioned by the law enforcement authorities.

In a press conference, Sisodia disclosed the issues taken up at the meeting, and said that private schools' political linkage is the major reason behind occurrence of such cases.

A report submitted by a 3-member Special Investigation Team revealed several security lapses at the Ryan International School, including dysfuncitonal CCTV cameras, no separate washrooms for bus conductors/drivers and no police verification of hiring non-teaching staff. The Pintos, in their pleas, said while the death of the boy was unfortunate, the management can not be held culpable and that they themselves were victims of the unfortunate circumstances.

The bench comprised of Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud was told by Thakur's counsel, that they were in the process of filing petition with the apex court registry.

The death has caused deep pain not only to the parents and family of the child but also to the trustees, management, staff and students of the school, their applications said. "We share the deep pain and grief of the bereaved parents and family in this darkest hour", said the statement.

US oil slides 3 percent as Irma threatens demand
In the case of Irma, analysts are more anxious that devastation wrought by the storm could sharply reduce demand for energy. As of late Thursday, data from S&P Global Platts showed that 12.8% of USA refinery capacity was down due to the storm.

Gurgaon police spokesperson Ravinder Kumar told the BBC that the human resources manager and the northern India head of the Ryan International School Group had been arrested for failing to provide security to students.

The education department has three options to take over the management school, cancellation of license or impose fine of Rs 25,000 for each lapse.

According to ANI report, locals who joined the agitation set on fire a liquor shop near to the school.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has asserted that there will be no leniency and the school management will be held accountable.

The protesters also gathered in front of the school demanding a CBI probe in the murder.

Most of the time, a person employed at a particular place puts in a word for someone from his village or clan and gets him/her hired, leading to a number of people from the same background working at the same place. "People are telling each other not to send their children to school as it would be unsafe for them to move out of home because of the tension lingering in the city after the Haryana incident", said Prasad Vishwanathan, parent of Ryan and ex-member of Parents-Teachers association (PTA).
