Seymour On Pro Football Hall of Fame Ballot

The nominees for the 2018 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame have been announced and five former members of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization are among the 108 nominees.

Nominees for induction must have played their last game at least five years ago. Seymour won three Super Bowls with the Patriots before playing his final four seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He was named to the Pro Bowl nine times during his career and was an All Pro six times. The list of modern-era nominees will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November and, subsequently, to 15 finalists in January.

A second-round draft choice of the Colts in 1980, Donaldson became one of the most dependable offensive linemen in franchise history, starting 152 straight games at center from 1981 to 1991 before breaking his leg during a September 1991 game against the Los Angeles Raiders.

This nominee list does also go through a screening process, but the rules state that it includes any first-time eligible candidates who have "strong enough credentials to give them even a remote chance of eventual Hall of Fame election", and "all other eligible candidates nominated by any person".

According to a release from the Hall, 18 finalists will be presented to the full 48-member Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee during its annual selection meeting on "Selection Saturday", the day before Super Bowl LII. From there, 15 finalists will be named in January and the final vote will take place February 3.

The Selection Committee will meet on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, in Minneapolis to elect the Class of 2018. Therefore, any individual who last played or coached in 2012 are eligible for the first time in 2018).
