Qualcomm: Android always beats 'iPhone' to new features

According to Phone Arena, the previously released list contained some errors as It had included HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 as the smartphones featuring dual camera technology. Earlier this year, Apple sued the chipmaker for roughly $1 billion claiming that Qualcomm has been "charging royalties for technologies they have nothing to do with".

The day before Apple puts out its new phones - and more specifically the iPhone X - Qualcomm wanted to jump the gun by putting out a list of tech that Android got first.

Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf.Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesCompetition between legal foes Apple and Qualcomm is heating up.

Apple uses modems from both Intel and Qualcomm in iPhones but reportedly decided, for consistency's sake, not to enable Gigabit LTE in iPhones with Qualcomm's modem until Intel chips have the same capability.

"We've been inventing foundational technologies for Gigabit LTE for well over a decade", Qualcomm says.

Galaxy Note 8

Xiaomi's Mi Mix is rightly credited as the smartphone that ushered in the era of barely-there bezels that has continued with the Galaxy S8 / Note 8 and LG G6 / V30. Lastly, I don't quite understand how it's fair to include a non-commercial "Qualcomm Reference Design Handset" in any of these categories, but hey. The first augmented reality phone is Lenovo Phab Pro 2.

If you've been following recent Apple rumors and leaks, you know that those are all things we expect to see spread across the new iPhones that the company will unveil tomorrow. Qualcomm doesn't explicitly mention Apple in the post, but at this point, apart from iOS, there is simply no other competition for Android.

Nevertheless, through its licensing program, the company aims to make its new technologies available to startups and globally popular companies like Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola and so on.

"The vibrant Android ecosystem is built on Qualcomm inventions and our industry-enabling horizontal model", it said.
