Nod for Costa's Spain return

Nod for Costa's Spain return

Chelsea have agreed terms with Spanish side, Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Diego Costa.

After failing to force a move to Atletico during the transfer window, the Spain worldwide has been left in the wilderness, and has no hope of playing regular football in 2017 unless he returns to Chelsea and mends fences with Conte.

With the unhappy striker forced to remain at Chelsea beyond the closure of the window, Costa will now have to wait until January to return to his former club in the Spanish capital.

Costa has been frozen out of the first team at Stamford Bridge since the end of last term as a result of his stormly relationship with Blues boss Antonio Conte.

Costa has not featured for the Premier League Champions since the FA Cup final loss to Arsenal in May.

"Costa's summer has been unusual, strange, complicated - not just for him but for his club", the coach said to beIN Sports (H/T Metro).

Atletico said Chelsea gave the Spain worldwide permission to travel to Madrid in the coming days to take his medical and finalize the contract with his former club.

"The transfer will be subject to reaching a private agreement with the footballer and the results of his medical (check-up)", the Chelsea statement added.

The 28-year-old Brazil-born forward joined Chelsea in 2014 and scored 52 goals in 89 league appearances.

He was dropped by Conte in January following a training-ground argument and a lucrative bid from Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian, and Chelsea proactively pursued an elite striker this summer - eventually signing Morata for the club-record £58m.

The France star's dazzling displays earned him third place behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the Ballon d'Or and Best FIFA Men's Player standings in 2016. Despite Costa's willingness to disclose the aforementioned information to the media compromising Chelsea's position in the market early on, the club have reportedly managed to successfully negotiate a financially favourable deal.
