Hurricane Irma by the numbers

Hurricane-scarred Florida warily eyed the fate of its most vulnerable residents and emergency workers were urged to immediately check on those in nursing homes after eight people died in a scorching facility that lost its air conditioning in the storm. Unfortunately, early this morning several patients experienced distress and there were 3 fatalities at the Facility and 3 at the hospital they were transferred to.

Trump, standing alongside Scott and other Florida officials, said he knows that "at a certain point it ends for you and we can't let it end".

Police have started a criminal investigation into the deaths.

But Senate President pro tempore Anitere Flores, a Miami-Dade Republican, told reporters in Tallahassee Friday that she expects criminal charges to be filed. As a precautionary measure, police are checking the other 42 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the city of Hollywood, Sanchez said.

Power outages continue to plague the state, with 4.4 million customers still without power as of Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

However, officials at the Florida Department of Health said the facility did not indicate the extent of its problems nor requested assistance in reports to a state monitoring database. Thousands of anxious residents who evacuated have been pressing to be allowed to return home.

Further north in Daytona Beach, police said one person died and three others were being treated at a hospital Wednesday for carbon monoxide poisoning from an electric generator.

"When the power goes out, generators can be a lifesaver, but used without good ventilation generators can be deadly", Gov. Cooper said. "The investigators must have full access to all public records and transcripts of communications, meetings, and conference calls between the Governor, his Office, and healthcare facilities in preparing for Hurricane Irma".

An adjacent building, Larkin Community Hospital, was also being evacuated.

The governor said he has ordered a probe by state authorities.

Florida utilities restored power to more residents on Saturday.

The number of deaths blamed on Irma in Florida climbed to 13 with the carbon monoxide deaths, in addition to four in SC and two in Georgia.

Irma killed at least 31 people in Florida, plus seven more in Georgia and SC combined, authorities said.

A total of eight people died at the elderly home, prompting questions as to who was responsible for the deaths and how, exactly, the tragedy occurred.
