Florida Game Is Make Or Break For Butch Jones

The lingering impact of Hurricane Irma had brought about the possibility that the game could be moved to another venue, but the SEC announced Tuesday that the game will be played in The Swamp with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. The match-up is now set to be at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Florida, however because of the damage caused by the recent Hurricane Irma, it is possible that the venue may change.

Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin said the decision was made after meeting with local officials.

"Call that property and make sure that they haven't sustained any damage", Milani said.

Florida (0-1) had to cancel its home opener against Northern Colorado ahead of Irma's landfall, and had opened its season with a 33-17 loss against MI. If there ever was a time to catch Florida on their heels, this is it.

"We appreciate the communication, coordination and cooperation among the many agencies and groups necessary to produce a game in a safe environment".

Florida won that game 16-10 and feelings between the two schools remain strained.

The SEC, UF and city authorities plan to assess the state of the stadium and campus and determine whether the appropriate personnel would be available for the game.

Either way, the Gators, under offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, present a standard offensive look compared to the flexbone attack Tennessee faced in a season-opening win over Georgia Tech and the motion-heavy offense the Vols saw in a 42-7 win over Indiana State on Saturday.

Last season, the Vols ended an 11-game losing streak against the Gators with a 38-28 come-from-behind win. "Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by Hurricane Irma and other recent storms throughout the SEC footprint, and we're grateful for the opportunity to travel to Florida this weekend".

They could use an equally impressive performance against Tennessee. Florida will challenge them on the ground, so we will see what the front seven is about by game's end. It was uncertain if the game would be postponed due to the devastation Hurricane Irma caused throughout Florida and much of the South East.

"We fully anticipate playing the game in Gainesville, but John Currie is on top of things and he's handling all the communication and all that", Jones said.
