Crystal Palace appoint Roy Hodgson as their new manager

Both Hodgson and Zaha are from nearby Croydon and Hodgson gave the 24-year-old his only England cap in 2012, when he came on as a late substitute in the friendly against Sweden.

Roy Hodgson has been appointed the new manager of Crystal Palace, the English Premier League club announced Tuesday.

Palace are owned by American majority shareholders David Blitzer and Josh Harris alongside Parish and other investors.

"It's close, I hope it's close anyway", Hodgson said.

"I am very excited to be back in club football and it is a long while since I have enjoyed the day to day sessions of training".

The former England head coach succeeds Frank de Boer just 24 hours after the Dutchman was sacked by the Eagles, and will bring Ray Lewington with him to the club as his assistant.

3 - Hodgson will become the third oldest manager to take charge of a Premier League game, behind Bobby Robson and Alex Ferguson.

He's a manager of vast experience, though, having coached around Europe for over 40 years, including spells with Inter Milan, Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool.

His managerial career began with Swedish club Halmstad in 1976 and he has coached in eight countries.

And, while he says no contract has been signed yet, Hodgson revealed to Sky Sports News his appointment is imminent.

"It's a good day for me - I'm very, very happy and I'm looking forward now hopefully to getting down to some work and trying to help us get some more points in the league and get up the table". He has also managed the national teams of Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Finland.

They are yet to win a game this season or score a goal and have placed their faith in experienced former England boss Hodgson.
