Christian Atsu on target as Newcastle United brilliantly beat Stoke City

Grumblings of an early crisis on Tyneside appear to have been hugely premature on the back of another Newcastle United victory on Saturday, their third straight in the Premier League.

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles scored the victor as Rafa Benitez's side beat Stoke City 2-1 at St James' Park on Saturday to post their third successive Premier League victory.

He adds that St James' Park will be a "tough" place to visit, and the atmosphere will be electrifying.

The confidence in the team is high as the home side are heading into this match on the back of two successive league wins against West Ham United and Swansea City.

But manager Benitez was keeping his feet firmly on the ground as he celebrated a successful return to the dug-out.

"They can enjoy it, we have to enjoy it, but we have to be sure that the next training session, we start correcting things and improving things and doing things in the way we are doing things at the moment".

Stoke were abysmal for long periods, but might still have snatched a draw after their former striker Joselu missed three wonderful chances for Newcastle.

The Newcastle winger scored the opening goal in their game against Stoke in Match Day 5. "We had enough chances to manage the game better". But obviously the right ball right on to his head, it's hard to defend under those circumstances.

But the Toon boss played it cool after the game, insisting: "When you win so many games in a row, the fans are excited and thinking about Europe for me it is one game at a time".

"But in the end, it wasn't to be".
