She grew up just a few miles from where fellow famous islander Usain Bolt was later born.

Violet Moss (also spelled Mosse) Brown, affectionately known as Aunt V, has died at at 117 years old in Jamaica, after being named the world's oldest person in April. In April he had received recognition of woman più elderly in life of Guinness Word Record.

Fairweather himself had been considered the world's oldest child with a living parent.

The last days of her life were fraught with tension as Brown was caught in the middle of a dispute among members of her family.

Ms Mosse-Brown had two caregivers and spent most of her days resting in the home she shared with her 97-year-old son.

Ryanair to cancel 40-50 flights per day for six weeks
Maria Joanna Suquitana said guests heading to her brother's wedding in Italy had their flights cancelled hours before departure. The operator has apologised to customers and said that it would help to arrange alternative flights or full refunds.

She has had visits from Governor General Sir Patrick Allen; Prime Minister Andrew Holness; Opposition leader Dr Peter Phillips; and president of Jamaica Baptist Union, Dr Devon Dick.

One group claimed that she was not getting the best care and allegedly took her away from her home.

"I came to look for her this afternoon and was told that she passed", the grieving family member of Moss Brown said.

It comes after Jamaican Violet Moss Brown, also 117, died last night. Brown told them it was still a little "like slavery" and was hard, but little by little Jamaica had become a good place.

Barry Russell, who is based in Miami, Florida said, "She died at the Fairfield Medical Centre, in Montego Bay, at approximately 2:30 pm". She said she enjoyed relaxing on her veranda, watching the passing parade of people and cars going by.
