Audi reveals 174mph RS4 Avant at Frankfurt

"In China, the Audi RS 4 will provide fresh impetus for growth as the only high-performance Avant in its segment". Massive air inlets with typical RS honeycomb structure and the wide, flat Singleframe grille define the front end. It uses permanent quattro four-wheel drive to channel 444bhp to the road for a 4.1-second 0-62mph time.

From the rear, the new RS4 is easily identified by a unique diffuser insert in the lower bumper, which is sculpted to accommodate big oval exhaust outlets, while a rear spoiler hangs above the rear screen. The show auto is finished in pearl-effect Nogaro Blue - a colour that was available on the first-generation of RS4. The new performance-oriented RS 4 Avant now gets a new engine that offers better performance.

As you'd expect from a hot Audi, all of that shove is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed tiptronic automatic. With the optional RS dynamic package, the top speed increases to 280 kph.

The new RS 4 Avant will be capable of doing the 0-100 kph sprint in 4.1 seconds as torque figure of 600 Nm is also over and above the previous model, and is available across a broad engine speed range from 1,900 to 5,000 rpm. As an option, buyers can choose to lift the top speed to 174 miles per hour. In the combined cycle test the RS 4 Avant is able to return up to 32.1mpg (199 grams of Carbon dioxide per kilometre) - an efficiency gain of 17 per cent over the previous model.

Other tricks up the B9's sleeve include an optional rear sport differential, optional RS Sport Suspension Plus with Dynamic Ride Control, optional ceramic brakes and optional Dynamic Steering. A rear sport differential enabling torque division between the rear wheels for enhanced handling adjustability, will be standard on United Kingdom the model.

Inside, the RS4 features sports seats and a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel, while Audi's virtual cockpit infotainment system displays information such as g-forces, torque levels and tyre pressures.

The Audi RS4 Avant will go on sale in the United Kingdom after Frankfurt, with first customer cars due in early 2018. The Audi exclusive programme caters for just about any other special request.
